USER RESEARCH

USER RESEARCH

The challenge

Knowledgehook started looking to expand internationally, but there were critical issues we needed to solve to ensure competitiveness in a new market and push for a smooth adoption.

My approach

  • Conducted user research with California district leaders and former Ontario superintendents to align on solutions

  • Designed and shipped 4 solutions in the span of a year, working closely with engineering and stakeholders

  • Iterated on feedback and worked within technical constraints to deliver work on time and within scope

The impact

  • Shipped features in time to secure a deal with expansion into California districts

  • Increased user satisfaction by 37%, through reduced support tickets and feature requests

  • Improved data transparency, gaining district leader confidence in decision-making and support.

ART DIRECTION

The challenge

Our first combat game mode, Outpost Runs, lacked visual identity. We wanted to build a new game mode, a multiplayer PvP arena, Zone Rush, but it desperately needed a better visual direction than Outpost Runs.

My approach

  • Outlined moodboards to align the team on tone and aesthetics

  • Defined and documented visual systems for environment design, color, and worldbuilding

  • Produced key assets (HUD, capture points, health packs, loading screen)

The impact

  • Reduced art review cycles by establishing clear direction upfront

  • Increased confidence in artists for their work

PRODUCTION ART

The challenge

We needed to design a character customization and inventory screen for Light of the Zo-gears, that had complex requirements and constraints. I needed to translate the game designer's vision into a scalable, future-proof interface.

My approach

  • Conducted internal stakeholder interviews to understand core needs

  • Designed multiple iterations when new requirements arose

  • Worked within an existing Design System, maintaining style consistency

  • Created custom ability icons for all characters

The impact

  • Shipped a significantly improved interface that was responsive and intuitive; that better served user needs and game requirements
